THE STORY OF OUR FAMILY
To start let me tell you a little about us our names are Dev and Chandra we are a cross cultural couple Chandra is from New York and Dev is from a small village in the Indian Himalayas. who met each other in our early 20 and dated for 4 years which is quiet unusual for the place we met and live. People in our community would tease us by saying we would get married after Chandra got pregnant In response we would say we where going to Adopt our children because we knew we wanted to Adopt our children from the beginning of our relationship. We where very happy we met each other because we had similar feelings and goals for our future family.
After we got married we realized that there are so many children with out parents in the world and our dream of adopting could finally come true so we went online to see what we would needed to do (you can find out all you need to know about adopting from India on our adoption link) getting all the info we raised the courage to call a orphanage in Delhi to see what else we needed to go on with our dream they told us that Mondays and Thursdays where days they take applications and make registrations for new families. So we took all the paper work we had compiled and took the bus ride we dreamed of for all those years 15 hrs later we arrived in Delhi and checked into a hotel had a shower and called the orphanage we had chosen they asked us to come in Monday morning and register. we arrived early to our surprise the head social worker was out of town in Chanai(Madras) and the social worker asked us some questions and we registered and went back to our hotel room. .
A few hour later we got a phone call from he head social worker who wanted to meet us in a few days when she returned from Chanai. on her return to Delhi she made a appointment to meet us in the Y.M.C.A. where she originally was about to turn us away because we where not residents of Delhi and after talking to us and seeing that we where really serious about adopting a little girl she agreed to help us and carry our case to the Delhi child welfare board other wise known as C.A.R.A. Doing everything she told us we returned home hopeful and with baby name books to try to find a name for the girl that would be coming into our life really soon.Waiting was the most difficult because we knew that she was out there somewhere and that the government. of India keeps the children in the institutions for 3 months just incase the birth parents would return. The time really moved slow while we waited and then on the 14 of Janurary. about 4 months after we registered the phone call we where waiting for came while we where out and seeing the number on the missed call list we called back OUR BABY WAS COMING TO US VERY SOON.
.Quickly we packed all the things we had got together and went back to Delhi. 2 days later we where the proud parents of a beautiful baby girl who we named Ashlesha Japa (Asha). taking her back to the hotel we knew we had done the right thing for us.
The adoption case took another 3 months but now that our baby was with us it was not so difficult and the days went by really fast and in no time we had gone to court and signed the final adoption papers Our life with our little girl went wonderfully even though there where some moments when we where overwhelmed or had to deal with some health problems Our daughter was about to turn 2 when we met our social worker and she asked us if we would like to go through the process again. At this time we where almost ready to go to England where dev was offered a job but we came to the decision that work will come again but the chance to do this again will not so we reregistered and waited for our second child another girl this time we went to Goa to wait because it would be easier and nicer for Asha . Every day went by relay fast this time having fun on the beach with Asha. Soon the day came when we had to go to Delhi to pickup our baby from the orphanage. It was one of the most fulfilling feelings. And again we waited for 3 months for the court procedures. Now we are a complete family with all the love we could ever want and 2 beautiful daughters who share every thing with us
our love and support go to all people who are waiting for their children
